David Fincher is known for having one of the most unique visual styles in the history of cinema. Although he has worked with cinematographers such as Darius Khondji, Jeff Cronenweth, Harris Savides, and Erik Messerschmidt, Fincher’s consistent, unmistakable signature is always on display. His stylistic approach is one of the most widely imitated in contemporary cinema, including everything from his mastery of blue-cyan-warm colour tones to the way he makes use of dark areas and contrast.
At TORMENTA, we wanted to create a LUT pack inspired by the work of one of our idols, covering everything from his transition into digital film through to his most recent productions. You can believe us when we say that we’ve intentionally immersed ourselves in the three atmospheres that Fincher uses extensively in all of his films.
All of these LUTs have been created to work with both indoor and outdoor filming, and we offer two versions of each of them: an A version where the colours have more presence and liveliness, and a more subtle B version.
Of course, we also have to remember that a good part of Fincher’s visual style is supported by the art direction and cinematography. What this means is that using these LUTs will be particularly effective if these two elements remain in close alignment.
We have stress tested and verified all of them in our own work. This pack includes 33 cube and 65 cube LUTs.
